Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Nothing says classic like the Heroes in a Half Shell.

Cowabunga! You want classic? Look no further than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! The Heroes in a half shell are by far the single greatest cartoon/comic/action figure franchise in the history of humanity.  I know some of you like your Transformers, and some of you like your Thundercats, but face it, none of those other heroes came close to the world-wide popularity of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I take pride in knowing that I was one of the first to latch on to the hype.  I bought my first Ninja Turtles action figure at the ripe age of five.  Of course being the intelligent kid I was, I selected Splinter, the rat, as my first Ninja Turtle.  As time progressed my obsession grew.  I now own 98% of the action figures as far as original characters go.  I didn’t waste $6.99 on Cow Farmer Leo, or Sewer Psychiatrist Raph.

The action figures were just one part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles legend.  The cartoon series was the highlight of every Saturday morning.  No other cartoon came close.  In an age full of the garbage they put on Cartoon Network, or on Kids WB, it would be so nice to have a quality, well-written, action-packed show featuring heroes like the Ninja Turtles!  The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies were also quality, with the exception of the third one.  And if you wanted some great Nintendo games, the Ninja Turtles ones always top the list.

Basically, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, encompassed almost every pop-culture aspect of my childhood.  And I was so fortunate to have them, instead of some Power Puff Girl to be my heroes.  Now there have been tons of fads over the years like Power Rangers and Pokemon, but they weren’t as popular or as long lived at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  I honestly can’t remember hearing anybody call the Ninja Turtles stupid.  Maybe it was because I was young, but I do know that there was a lot of Power Ranger and Pokemon bashing, and if Ninja Turtles bashing was anywhere near that level, I think I would remember it.  The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesare still popular today, with a brand-new cartoon series and a possible computer animated movie on the horizon.  Maybe we’ll never see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles unite children everywhere with a cry of “Cowabunga!”. But we’ll still have all the great memories, cause the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are the classic of the classics.
