A Continuation from The Lost Season 2 Review: Part One

with Sawyer’s “Long Con”. I’m telling you, I would have loved to see Sawyer and Charlie start their own WWF-like faction on the island. Then the survivors would have to focus on each other in addition to “The Others”. Can you imagine how cool it would be to see Jack, Kate, Sayid, and Locke to head to head with Sawyer, Charlie, Michael, and Mr. Ecko. Put Vince McMahon on the phone right now, and we’ll work out the details for the Pay-Per-View! |

I could come up with: Imagine winning the Powerball lottery for 363 Million, and then a couple of months later the entire economy crashes, making your winnings worth the price of a Happy Meal. Poor Sayid. |
Jorge Garcia (Hugo Reyes a.k.a. Hurley) You want to talk about a back-to-back stomach punches? Our buddy Hurley also suffered through a relationship-ending murder. Although, Hugo’s wasn’t nearly on the level of Sayid losing Shannon. First of all, Libby doesn’t even come close to Shannon in the hottness department. And secondly, Hurley’s a millionaire so if he ever gets off the island, he won’t be hard-up for female companioship. Now that I’ve made myself look like a complete jerk with my all- |
too-honest analysis of the Shannon and Libby murders, let me move onto our next castaway…
Harold Perrineau Jr. (Michael Dawson) …The murderer himself. I think that we need to pause for and give Michael a standing ovation for the single-most shocking turn of events in Lost history. You knew that when Michael came back, he was going to pull a fast one and release Henry Gale. But did you ever think he was going to put a bullet in not one, but two of his fellow survivors. I complained about how annoying Michael was back in my Season 1 Review, but his |
role in this amazing plot twist made all of those annoyances worth it. And as an added bonus, he’s now been sent packing thanks to his betrayal. Seems to me like everyone came out a winner.
Well, except Ana Lucia… And Libby… And Hurley… Yeah, so I’m a really, really bad person. |
Emilie de Ravin (Claire Littleton) Too be honest, other than serving a Charlie’s love interest, Claire really doesn’t bring much to the table. Sure, she did have that one good episode this season where she made her way back to the place “The Others” were holding her. But I’d really like to see something intriguing from the islands resident Australian. Can’t we give Aaron superpowers or something? |
Maggie Grace (Shannon Rutherford) Much like Claire, Shannon really didn’t bring much to the table other than being Sayid’s object of affection. However, with Claire having a kid and all, I doubt she’ll be dying any time soon. Unfortunately, Maggie Grace’s Shannon was not so lucky. Shannon, you may have been kind of boring, but you will be missed. The cast will be far less hot without you. |
Yunjin Kim (Sun-Hwa Kwon) and Daniel Dae Kim (Jin-Soon Kwon) I have to say that I’m a big fan of both Sun and Jin. At first it may have appeared that having two characters who didn’t speak English was just a gimmick. But the way these two have developed as characters and as a couple is one of my favorite parts of the show. Ladies and Gentlemen: It’s Korea’s Ross and Rachel. |
L. Scott Caldwell (Rose Henderson) Sam Anderson (Bernard Nadler)
I figured that while we were on the topic of couples, I would move onto Rose and Bernard. While these two are about as on the fringe as you can get, they did get their own flashback episode, qualifying them for inclusion in the review. What do I have to say about them? Not much. I do like Rose, and I think Sam is a bit of a ninny. That being said, it got a little dusty during the conclusion of their episode. |
Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia Cortez)
It’s time for the Tailies! I have to be honest, I was never a big fan of Ana Lucia’s. When the news broke that she would become a regular, I expected her to be a fourth member of the Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle. She was, but her effect on the romance level was negligible since she proved to be more mean and scary than hot. However, I will give props to the writers for fooling us into thinking she would be a mainstay of the show. That made it really shocking when Michael popped a cap in her. |
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Mr. Eko) I was however, a big fan of Mr. Eko. This priest with an attitude was the perfect replacement for Locke after he went all “I don’t believe in the island anymore”. Plus it was really cool to watch him beat the snot out of people. With the WWF in some serious need of good superstars, Mr. Eko is somebody that Vince McMahon should really make an offer to. And seeing as I’ve now |
shattered my previous record with three WWF references in a single non-related article, I’ll move towards wrapping things up… |
Cynthia Watros (Libby)
Libby completes the trio of blondes who really didn’t add much to the story, other than serving as a love interest, this time for Hurley. As you can see from Maggie Grace’s experience, its a role that doesn’t lend itself to much job security. What is interesting are the two plot twists that involve Libby. The first being the fact that she was a resident in the same mental institution as Hurley, and the second being that she gave Desmond the yacht that he ultimately left him shipwrecked on the island. |
Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond David Hume) Of all the things I thought could be down in the hatch, a Scottish man who had been pressing a button every 108 minutes for years was not one of them. You gotta love Lost. Anyway, in the Season 2 finale Desmond not only saved the planet, but also introduced us to a fairly intriguing plotline, as it appears his ex-girlfriend has been searching for him all this time. An interesting way to end the season indeed… |
Michael Emerson (Benjamin Linus, a.k.a. Henry Gale) Perhaps my favorite part of Season 2 was finally coming face to face with a real live “Other”. The castaways capture of “Henry” opened up more doors than perhaps any other revelation in the history of the series. |
As Season 2 drew to a close, Benjamin Linus had used Michael to lure Jack, Kate, and Sawyer into captivity, leaving us to wonder about their fate. Talk about making the wait for Season 3 unbearable!
Peggy Bundy got more screen time in Season 2 than Walt did, but I wanted to include him for one reason. Season 2 finally answered the question of how the writers were going to deal with Walt maturing at a much faster rate than the storyline would allow for. Think about it. Walt was twelve when when the plane crashed in September, 2004. At the shows current rate of progression, Season 6 will take place in February, 2005, but Malcom David Kelley would be eighteen. See the problem? The make-up staff will have a hard enough time keeping the adults looking the same, forget about hiding Walt’s six inch growth spurt and facial hair. So out of all of Lost Season 2’s revealed mysteries, this one may be the most satisfying. And with that in mind, I’ll bring this review to a close. See you after Season 3! |
