With the Wolves faltering, their fans have one question to ask themselves…
I just have a feeling. It’s something that I can’t explain. It’s something that might be dead wrong. But it’s this feeling in my gut that for just the second time in all these years we’re going to have something go our way. The T-Wolves have been around for 14 years now. If you recall, we were in the gutter for the first six years of our existence. The team was terrible, we thought we were going to move to New Orleans, and the whole idea of basketball in Minnesota seemed like it was down the tubes. Then came the NBA draft, and in a move that shocked the world, some tall, lanky teenager fresh out of highschool gets taken with the 5th pick in the draft. And then in that seventh year we got to witness the beginning of the KG Era. Sure it took a little while for him to develop, but after the first 82 games are under his belt, he becomes a player that catapults his team to the playoffs for the first time ever.
Fast forward 7 years later. The Wolves have been one of the most competitive teams in the league, making the playoffs for six years in a row. Amidst betrayal, injury, scandal, and death, the Wolves have managed to put a decent team on the floor every season. However, they’ve yet to win a playoff series. No one believes in their ability to make a scratch in the postseason, not even most of their own fans. The idea of a championship in Minnesota seems down the tubes.
Then comes the next few days…
– Minnesota runs the table and wins all of its games.
– Portland pulls the upset over the Lakers and stubs it’s toe against a streaking Phoenix Suns team
– Los Angeles loses to Portland, gets the best first round matchup possible for it, the Dallas Mavericks who have not won against the Yellow and Purple in L.A. in 25 tries and would have to play there 3 times before they could even think of the second round.
– And perhaps once again after six years of heartbreak, a tall, lanky hero will save the day…
Unlikely, yes. But stranger things have happened. It’s been 14 years, 6 consecutive first round exits….we’re due. Plain and simple – it’s our time. We’ve got the best player in the league on our team. We’ve overcome a barrage of injuries. The fact that we’re even in this position, which almost no one but myself and a few others predicted at season’s start, makes me believe that this is the year we’ll finally do it.
Maybe it won’t happen that way. I’m no psychic that’s for sure. Maybe it’s our destiny to play the Lakers. But then I say, “Bring It On”. Because it would be so much sweeter to finally win a series over the 3 time defending champs, than the Jail Blazers anyway. This is our year. This is our time. So stop worrying. Stop thinking about the off-season moves we’ll need to make. Just think about how sweet it’s going to be to see the T-Wolves playing in the month of May. Cause we’re headed there… I believe it. Do you?
