Survivor: Cook Islands – Episode 11

Jonathan demonstrates his extensive vocabulary.

Episode 11 Elimination: Candice

After the travesty that was The Axis of Idiots taking over Exile Island, it’s sure nice to see the good guys prevailing in the Cook Islands…

1. Yul Busts Out The Idol. This is a story that would be a big deal in almost any other situation.  But I honestly can’t foresee a way that this will come back to bite him.

During the classic “Survivor Auction” Becky was the winning bidder for an opportunity to send somebody to Exile Island.  Of course, she once again selected Candice. (She deserved it) That prompted Jeff Probst to mention that Candice would have the chance to look for the hidden immunity idol.

For some reason, (perhaps to further frustrate Candice) Yule spoke up and revealed that he had the hidden idol.  Normally, that’s something that you want to keep quiet to avoid being unnecessarily targeted.  But Yul laid it all out there.

A dumb move?  Yeah.  But something that will come back to bite him?  I’d be shocked if it was.  I just don’t see his fellow Aitu members pulling off a major backstabbing.

2. White People Are Spiteful.

Obviously the former Raro tribesmen feel a little bit betrayed by Jonathan. But in reality, he made the best choice for his own survival.  I doubt any of them would have acted differently if they were smart enough to think through any strategy.  So the fact that they carried on for days about him being a “snake” and a “cancer” and just wouldn’t let it go, further cements the fact that not a single one of the Caucasian participants in this season’s social experiment was a positive representative of the melaninally-challenged. Once again, it’s a good thing I’m an adopted Latino.

Of course Jonathan took the spitefulness up a notch when he refused to share the fish he caught with Adam, Candice, and Parvati.  This lead to a thoroughly enjoyable argument between Jonathan and Candice in which Johnny Boy helped extend my vocabulary by using the phrase “That’s bollix”.

I had absolutely no idea what this meant, so I looked it up.  Here’s the dictionary entry for bollix:

bollix

SYLLABICATION: bol·lix
VARIANT FORMS: also bol·lox
TRANSITIVE VERB: Inflected forms: bol·lixed also bol·loxed, bol·lix·ing, bol·lox·ing, bol·lix·es, bol·lox·es
Informal To throw into confusion; botch or bungle: managed to bollix up the whole project.
ETYMOLOGY: Alteration of ballocks, testicles, from Middle English balloks, from Old English beallucas. See bhel-2 in Appendix I.
OTHER FORMS: bollix —NOUN

Needless to say, I still have no idea what he meant by that.  But the “alteration of testicles” part did make me giggle.

3. To Betray Jonathan, or Not to Betray Jonathan???

It was the general consensus among everyone remaining that Jonathan is extremely annoying.  That lead to some discussion between the former Aitu members as to whether or not they should vote him off since they’d still be up 4-3.

WARNING:  DUMB MOVE ALERT!  DUMB MOVE ALERT!

When you’re up 5-3, under no circumstances should you ever consider voting out one of your alliance members.  4-3 is not safe.  All it takes is for Adam to win a few challenges in a row and now he’s in the final four and either Ozzy, Becky, or Sundra isn’t.

If they were up 5-2, maybe then you can start to think about it.  But I’m personally a fan of knocking off all of your enemies before you start trimming your own fat.

Anyway, the old Raro members started working Yul hard, saying that none of them would vote for him in the final if he kept Jonathan around.  For a moment, it looked like Yul would succumb to the pressure.  But in the end, he proved that he’s as smart as he seems and Candice got the axe.

Yup, things are looking quite good for Ozzy and Aitu!  Who would’ve thought?
