Episode 12 Elimination: Shane

My dream ending for the season was crushed this episode: Shane will not be losing in the finals.  There will be no mental breakdown.  There will be no homicidal rage. The night will not end with Jeff Probst doing play by play as he nails Courtney over the head with a steel chair…

It would have been a television moment right up there with the Pacers/Pistons brawl and Joe Namath’s “I want to kiss you”.

But there’s no reason to be too disappointed.  I

may have been overestimating Shane’s ability to perform.  His parting words “I’m going to have a chocolate ice cream bar in one minute” left much to be desired.  Needless to say, Judd’s “I hope you all get bit by a crocodile you scumbags!” is still the king of all Survivor send-offs.

So the main focus of this episode was that the Survivors would get a chance to spend some time with a loved one.  Terry once again kicked Dumb Aras’ tail in the reward challenge and got the opportunity to dish out the love.  He chose Shane and his son, Boston, to join him and his wife on an overnight vacation.  Cirie got to take her husband H.B. back to camp.  Aras got a hug from his mom.  And Danielle got to wave goodbye to her mother as she headed off to Exile Island – perfect revenge for screwing over Terry earlier.

I personally thought that Terry made the right decision across the board.  However, Aras disagreed.  When Terry explained his rationale – that Shane would have killed him in his sleep if he didn’t pick him to go along, and that Cirie’s wife/husband bond was stronger than a child/mother bond, Dumb Aras went back into full “whiny girl” mode.  He went on and on about how his mother was “his rock” and that she meant as much to him as any wife ever would.  Ooookaaaaaayyyyy…. Terry basically told him to stop being an idiot and that he’d understand when he hit puberty. Still, I’m guessing that Aras plans on using the million dollars to buy his mom a big house with a nice basement for him to sleep in.

Terry once again won immunity, an unprecedented fifth straight, guaranteeing him a spot in the final three.  That left the remaining Casaya members to begin scrambling.  Shane still thought that Danielle was going, and Terry was all for it as well.  Danielle and Aras wanted to finally rid themselves of the psycho.  And Cirie, the swing vote was debating her options.  She could either get rid of the only person in the game who had any chance of beating her, Danielle, or she could boot Shane, improving her odds of actually being taken to the final two.  As you know, she chose Shane.  I think it was the right move from her standpoint since she’s completely dependent on the winner of the final immunity picking her to sit next to them.  It’s far more likely that that they’d chose her if she went against Danielle instead of Shane.

Predictions/Odds from best to worst:

Dumb Aras: My biggest fear is that he’ll pull out the miracle upset over Terry in that final challenge.  How lame would that be?  Terry has kicked his tail over and over again.  If there’s any justice he’ll just continue to do so.  It’s one thing to be an underdog.  It’s another thing to be an unquestionably inferior player.  Point blank, Terry WILL be in the final challenge.  The only way he gets to the final is by beating him.  And to add insult to injury, he’ll most likely have to win immunity this coming week as well.  I’ve got quite the hankering that the idol is coming out next tribal council.  But more on that below.

Odds: 10:1  Last week: 8:1

Cirie:  She was last weeks favorite. But seeing as Danielle is actually going to do the smart thing for a change, her odds have decreased considerably.  Her only chance is for Aras to survive the next tribal council, which will most likely require immunity on his part.  If Danielle or Terry get immunity it’s over. (Unless Cirie manages to win the final challenge which is not likely at all) Becuase the only way she gets chosen for the final is if the other option is Aras, or if Dumb Aras is actually dumb enough to take her along.   I know that’s confusing, but that’s as simple as I can make it.  Don’t you love Survivor?

Odds: 8:1   Last week: 3:1

Danielle:  As unbelievable as it may be, it appears Danielle will make a move that will actually improve her odds of winning.  It’s a pure miracle that she’s in the final four with all the bone-head moves she’s pulled so far.  Knowing that she’s his only real shot at winning, Danielle will align with Terry.  And if he pulls out immunity for a sixth straight time, that hidden idol is as good as hers.  Buh-bye Aras…

Odds: 3:1  Last week: 5:1

Terry:  He’s in the final three.  If he can win the next immunity, he can protect Danielle with the idol and probably eliminate Aras in the process.  That would leave him in the final immunity challenge with Danielle and Cirie.  If by some unforeseeable turn of events he lost that one, I actually think both Cirie and Danielle would chose him to go along anyway.  He can beat Danielle, but not Cirie.  So unless the lady who was more unlikely to be a final four contestant than George Mason pulls the ultimate upset in the end, winning the next immunity challenge wins Terry a million bucks.

Odds: 3:2  Last week: 4:1

Final Prediction: Terry gets immunity again and gives the hidden idol to Danielle, sending a shocked Aras home. Terry runs the immunity table in the final, and takes Danielle with him to the final. Terry over Danielle: 5-2

Last Week: Shane goes next week, followed by Danielle.  Terry wins the final immunity and picks Cirie to go beside him. Cirie over Terry: 4-3
