Episode 6 Elimination: Dan

And the opening credits return!  What do you think the odds are that we’ll get them again when the show returns in three weeks?  It’s just not Survivor without the credits.

So the show begins with Shane waking up Danielle in the middle of the night to tell her that he wants out of the alliance because he can’t be with people who make decisions based on emotions.  He wants to enter the merge as a lone wolf and asks her to let him take his pledge on his son back.  Danielle tells him to shut-up and go back to sleep.

In the morning, Shane continues his plea, thereby surpassing Aras as the dumbest member of his tribe.  Courtney and Danielle are all to happy to release Shane of his vow, and decide to join forces with Cirie and take him out at tribal council.

Now besides the fact that Shane probably pulled the worst strategic movie in the history of the show, let’s take a minute to reflect on his reasons for destroying his alliance.  First, he was upset they voted Bobby off, even though Bobby was the person Shane originally wanted to go before Aras twisted his arm into going for Bruce.  Second, he felt that Courtney and Danielle were making decisions based on emotions without thinking things through, which got him very upset until he realized that…

…he had just made an emotional decision without thinking things through and was about to get his tail kicked off the island.  So of course, the obligatory backpedaling kicked in.

At La Mina, the tribe received news that there was going to be a combined reward/immunity challenge.  Once again, this was do-or-die time for Sally.  Except that I highly doubted that she was going home tonight.  Last week’s episode talked about how a twist would save somebody, and nobody was on thinner ice than my pony.

Sure enough, the winners of the challenge not only got a feast/trip and immunity, but they got to exclude one member of the other team from Tribal Coucil by sending them to Exile Island.  At this point, I knew without a doubt that Sally was safe.  Either La Mina would win, and spare Shane, or Casaya would win and spare Sally.

In all honesty, I wish that they’d cut out the spoilers in the previews.  It makes it far to easy to predict who’s going to win challenges.  Last week, I knew Casaya was getting reward because of the wine controversy.  This week, I was able to stay calm the entire time, assured that there was no chance of Sally going home.

So La Mina jumped out to a huge lead, only to have Dan implode down the final stretch once more.  I’ve already revealed that he got the axe this week, but if Sally wasn’t sent to Exile Island, La Mina would have made their biggest mistake ever to keep Dan over her.  The man’s just awful at challenges.

Casaya got to take a trip to a Panamanian village for a feast as their reward.  Of course Shane made it a goal to find cigarettes as quickly as possible, completely destroying any hope that 39 days of abstinence might cure him of an addition that’s bound to kill him.  I didn’t have much faith in the man’s will power to begin with, but now there’s no chance he’s going to be able to quit.  So along with reward, Shane also won small-cell lung cancer.

Shane also took the time to mend some fences with Danielle and Courtney, causing Cirie to wonder if she was back on the outside again.  But I highly doubt that the girls are dumb enough to take Shane back… ok, so that’s a lie.

With Sally exiled, La Mina was forced to make a tough decision. With last week’s previews promising “a Survivor tribal council like never before”, I was hoping for a two on two tie. However, the previews were a complete sham, as this tribal council proved to be the most boring one ever.  Which, I guess, would technically make it like no tribal council before.  But I still feel ripped off.

Terry ended up turning his back on Dan the first chance he got and teamed up with Austin and Nick.  I really wasn’t surprised at this one bit. Terry showed that he’d be quick to jump ship with the whole Ruth Marie fiasco, and his multiple New York Yankees references throughout the episode further cemented his lack of character.  As an avid Yankees-hater, nothing please me more than to have Terry repeatedly use the tactics of the Bronx Bombers to justify stabbing his closest ally in the back.

Terry proceeded to give Dan warning that he was about to betray him and go back on his word, (What a nice guy!) citing that he needed to to what’s best for the tribe (a.k.a, what’s best for himself).  Dan took it like a man, accepting responsibility for blowing the challenge, when in reality Terry was just looking for the easy way out.  And I think you can figure out what happened from their since this was the most boring tribal council in history.

Now onto my winner predictions…

Cirie:  She may have finally cracked the alliance.  But either way, the axis of idiots isn’t staying together much longer.  If Casaya keeps the numbers in their favor, she has a nice shot of proving me completely wrong.

Last Week’s Chances: 12:1  This Week:  8:1

Austin:  If La Mina can even out the numbers, he’s in an awesome situation.  He and Nick are in a solid alliance and they should be able to dominate challenges after the merge.  Of course the big question is IF La Mina can even out the numbers.

Last Week’s Chances: 4:1  This Week: 7:1

Nick: Ditto what I said for Austin.  However, he definitely seems to be the “Dan” to Austin’s “Terry”.  We saw how that played out.

Last Week’s Chances: 6:1 This Week: 10:1

Terry:  He proved he has the “me-first” attitude it takes to win the game by canning Dan.  But he did just lose his alliance partner and the numbers aren’t in his favor.  The only thing saving him is that immunity idol.  Right now La Mina is down by two people.  If they can cut it to one before the merge, the idol could even things out by getting rid of a Casaya member instead of himself. That being said, he’d still need to win individual immunity several times because everyone’s out to get him.

Last Week’s Chances for Terry: 2:1   This Week’s Chances:  12:1

Shane:  He has officially become “the guy I want to sit next to at the end”.  If he can avoid driving everyone completely mad, there’s a good chance he’ll be pulled along all the way to the end.  Would anyone actually vote for him there? Probably not.  But if you’re sitting in that seat, you’ve always got a chance.

Last Week’s Chances for Shane: N/A   This Week’s Chances: 30:1

Danielle:  Casaya’s got significant numbers at the moment, so they have to be considered as long as that remains the case.  Danielle is probably the second smartest woman on her tribe, which isn’t saying much.  But if the numbers hold, she’s almost a lock for the final four.

Last Week’s Chances for Danielle: N/A   This Week’s Chances: 7:1

The Fire Dancer:  If she won, she would go down, with out question, as the dumbest sole Survivor ever.  Which is exactly why I have next to no faith in her ability to pull through to the end.

Last Week’s Chances for Courtney:  N/A   This Week’s Chances:  25:1

Dumb Aras:  There are times when I can actually see him pulling a strategic move or two to get him to the end.  But then I remember that this is the guy who told Melinda and Cirie that he had formed a four-person alliance and that they were the next two to go.

Last Week’s Chances for Aras: N/A  This Week’s Chances:  12:1

And as for my pony on Survivor Panama: Exile Island, Sally: The girl’s stock is on the rise – BIG TIME!  If the numbers get evened out, then Terry is going to need a partner.  Who would be better for him to choose than Sally?  If the numbers don’t get evened out, then the pecking order is Terry, Nick, Austin, and then Sally.  The person who was in that position has won the past two Surivors (Chris in Vanuatu and Dani in Guatamala.) Considering that she started out with Danielle and Courtney at the start, she might even be able to sneak her way in there as well.  Basically, she’s in a fairly decent spot, as long as La Mina wins immunity next week.  If they don’t, she’s gone.  But if they do…  I might start practicing the best way to say “I told you so!”

Last Week’s Chances:  20:1  This Week’s Chances: 15:1

By the way, I just gave odds on everyone’s chances, except for Bruce.  He’s still holding steady from last week at 0:1.
